Pietro Capogreco

“The image of the human body dominates our lives, its visual legacy starts with the first human artistic endeavour and exists in all cultures all over the world. Yet it remains for modern humans uncomfortable, the media has appropriated it and trivialized it, but it is fundamental to the vision of who and what we are.  It is interesting to descend in to a silent world through the making of a picture and its ambiguous meaning. The mystery in the language of the human body, every shape and gesture communicates, and that is unbearable.” – Pietro Capogreco

Pietro Capogrecowas born in 1956 in Locri, Italy. In 1969, he moved to Melbourne, Australia, and studied at two local art colleges. Before graduation, he received an invitation from the famous gallery named Pinacotheca and completed his solo exhibition. After that, he continued to hold various solo exhibitions and joint exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney. Pietro has always been interested in the symbolism of humanism and human bodies, such as ancient buildings and rocks. In 1988, he left Australia to New York and then moved to Rome. He has lived in Rome, Italy for more than ten years, and travels between European countries while creating painting and photography artworks. Currently, he spends most of his time creating in Melbourne, Australia.

Pietro has always been interested in art history and feels that art is the fashion language associated with that period of human life. After many years, he deeply realized that the connotation of art is international, and the fabric-covered by the human body has symbolic meaning in different societies and periods. Pietro spends a lot of time learning philosophy and history, recognizing that the world is often not updated but changing. He felt that it was necessary to use the paintings to express human desires and to remove negative and ugly from human nature. His works are collected by many private and public art institutions in Australia, the United States, Italy, Britain and Greece.
