Warren Nichols
A long held interest in, and active participation within the landscape has been central to
Warren’s art practice.
Working within a minimalist genre, it is his interest in translucency and transition in colour,
as dictated by changing light conditions, which influences his exploration of applying
numerous transparent and translucent glazes over a prepared surface (usually textured
titanium white) to achieve the desired intensity and tone of colour—-an approach not too
dissimilar to the practice of the masters, Rembrandt and Rothko.
The works made in Warren’s recent SKY LAND SEA series present an abstracted
interpretation of sky, land and sea compositions as observed over Western Port at varying
times of the day and season of the year.
